Storage Unit Cleanouts in Stone Mountain

That storage bill shows up every month whether you open the door or not. We empty the unit, hold back anything you want kept, send the rest to donation, recycling or disposal, and sweep the floor so it is ready for the facility's move-out check.

When it is time to empty the unit

Most units start out as a short stop. You needed somewhere to put the couch between houses, or the kitchen was torn apart for a while. Then one year becomes three. A cleanout makes sense when you are closing the unit, moving down to a smaller size, or going through a relative's things.

Carrying boxes is the easy part. Every facility has its own gate hours, cart rules and move-out list, and some charge a fee for a dirty floor or a nail left in the wall. Those small things decide whether you get your key back without a charge, so we check them on every job. We started hauling in 2021. We are licensed and insured, and facility managers tend to ask about that before a crew pulls up.

What we handle at the unit

Sorting before anything leaves
We open boxes as we go when you ask us to. Anything marked keep gets set aside in one spot so it does not end up on the truck by mistake.
Careful loading
We wrap mirrors and glass, carry dressers instead of dragging them, and stack the truck so nothing shifts. That matters when part of the load is headed to a donation center.
Donation, recycling and disposal
Furniture and household goods in decent shape head to charities that will take them. Scrap metal, cardboard and electronics go to recyclers when they accept them. Whatever is left goes to a proper disposal site.
Heavy and awkward items
Old refrigerators, mattresses, sofas and exercise equipment come out with the rest. If you also need things cleared from your home, our furniture removal and appliance removal crews can handle that on another visit.
Swept floor and a last look
After the final box is out, we sweep from the back wall to the door. Stray screws, tape and packing peanuts get picked up, and we check the corners so the walk-through goes quickly.

Signs it is time to clear out your unit

  • You can't recall what is in there

A unit that has stayed shut for a year rarely holds much you still need. Clearing it ends a bill for things you have not missed.

  • Musty smell or water stains

Drive-up units in Georgia humidity can trap moisture. Boxes soften, fabric mildews and wood swells, and it gets worse the longer it sits.

  • A rent increase notice

Rates tend to climb after the first months. If the price no longer makes sense for what you are storing, it is a good time to empty it.

  • An estate or family move

Units left behind after a loss or a move into assisted living often need sorting before anything is thrown out. We go at your pace and set aside papers and photos.

  • You are behind on payments

If the facility has sent a late notice, clearing the unit before things go further gives you control over what is kept and what goes.

What moves the price

Our price comes from how much room your things take up in the truck. The clock does not set it. You hear the number at the estimate, before anything gets lifted, and a few things raise or lower it.

Volume

A half-full 5x10 is a very different job from a packed 10x30. The more truck space the load takes up, the more it costs.

Access at the facility

A drive-up unit is quick. An upper-floor unit down an interior hallway means carts, elevators and more carrying time.

Heavy or special items

Appliances, mattresses and items that need special recycling can add cost because of disposal fees.

How much sorting you want

If we are just clearing everything, it goes fast. Opening every box to pull out keep items takes longer, and that is reflected in the quote.

How the day goes

  1. 1

    A call and a free on-site estimate

You tell us the unit size and what is in it. We meet you at the unit, look inside and give you an upfront price with no hidden fees.

  2. 2

    Facility check

Before the job, we confirm gate hours, where the truck can park and whether the facility wants your name on file for our crew. Some facilities need your written permission for us to be on site.

  3. 3

    Sort, load and haul

We set your keep items aside, load the rest and separate donation and recycling as we go. Most standard units are done in one visit.

  4. 4

    Sweep and walk-through

We sweep the floor and walk the unit with you or send you photos if you could not be there. Then you lock up and turn it in.

Storage unit cleanout questions

Do I have to be there on the day?

Not always. If the facility allows it, you can give the office permission for our crew and share the gate code. We will send photos when the unit is empty and swept. We still suggest being there for the estimate if you want items saved.

Can you take only part of what is in the unit?

Yes. Plenty of customers keep a few boxes and clear the rest to move into a smaller unit. Mark or point out what stays and we leave it neatly stacked.

What items can't go on the truck?

Old paint, gas cans, pool chemicals and propane tanks stay off our truck because they count as hazardous. Storage facilities usually ban them inside units anyway. If we come across any while clearing, we set them to one side and explain where you can take them.

What if a wall or door gets scuffed at the facility?

Our crew brings carts and moving blankets, props doors open and keeps loads off hallway walls and door frames. If the facility office wants paperwork from us before the crew arrives, mention it on the phone and we will send it to them ahead of the job.

Do you serve storage facilities outside Stone Mountain?

Yes. We clear units in Tucker, Clarkston, Decatur, Stonecrest and other nearby areas. Our Service Areas page lists the places we cover, and more than 1,200 Google reviews come from customers around the area.
